TIMBERCARD – a sign for sustainability

Every year, around 6 billion payment cards are produced worldwide, which sooner or later end up in the trash. And only a small part of the 30,000 tonnes of PVC is made usable again through recycling.

In order to set a new benchmark in resource conservation and environmental responsibility, the two companies DG Nexolution eG and Swiss Wood Solutions AG have joined forces and launched the newly founded Copecto GmbH, the first almost completely biodegradable wooden card for payment transactions. The name for this world first – TIMBERCARD® – was developed by innomark GmbH.

Unlike other wooden cards, the TIMBERCARD® does not have a plastic core. Wood and FSC-certified paper from regional forests and bio-adhesive are used for the production of the card body and make the card – apart from the antenna, chip and magnetic strip – completely biodegradable. The TIMBERCARD® reduces plastic waste and lowers the card industry’s carbon footprint. Moreover, it can be used like a conventional card and has successfully passed extensive certification tests according to international requirements of global payment transactions.

Dr. Christian Lehringer as CEO of Copecto GmbH succinctly sums up the credo of the TIMBERCARD®: “The TIMBERCARD is not only a sign for sustainable payment transactions, but also an ambassador for nature in your wallet.”

We congratulate TIMBERCARD® on its “sustainably” successful market launch.
